13 September 2017 - Palais des Nations, Geneva
On the occasion of the 13th session of the Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED), GANHRI was invited to engage with the Committee to discuss cooperation between National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), GANHRI and the CED.
During the interactive dialogue with the GANHRI representative Ms Katharina Rose, Committee members reaffirmed the importance of the contribution that NHRIs bring to the work of the Committee and to the implementation of the Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
"Establishing a Paris Principle compliant NHRI in itself is making a contribution to the implementation of the Convention" said CED Chairperson Ms. Suela Janina.
In 2014, the Committee adopted, following a broad and inclusive consultation process with GANHRI and NHRIs worldwide, an innovative paper on cooperation with NHRIs which served as basis for NHRI cooperation with the Committee in all areas of its work.
