INTERNATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE OF NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS INSTITUTIONS CHANGES ITS NAME TO THE GLOBAL ALLIANCE OF NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS INSTITUTIONS

After a 2 years inclusive process involving all members in all regions the ICC officially adopted today the new name Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).

In making the announcement to the General Meeting the outgoing Chairperson Adv. Mabedle Lawrence Mushwana said “this is not just about a new name and logo. This is about strengthening our collective voice for human rights.”

The incoming Chairperson – and the very first Chairperson of GANHRI – Beate Rudolf said “Launching GANHRI is about bringing across our particular strength as a connected and collaborative alliance: The strength of our knowledge of the human rights situation on the ground and of the challenges to implement human rights domestically. And the strength of our independent and measured advice on how to create sustainable solutions to human rights problems” she continued.
