This closing event of the UNDP Annual Meeting on Strengthening the Rule of Law and Human Rights for Sustaining Peace and Fostering Development is a celebration of the Paris Principles, what they’ve allowed champions of human rights to achieve over the last 25 years, and what they mean going forward as Member States – with support from the United Nations and the international community – aim to ensure that no one is left behind.

This event explored the
ways in which NHRIs have contributed to improving the lives of individuals
around the world over the past 25 years, and the role they continue to play in
promoting and protecting human rights both domestically and internationally. The event also looked to the future of NHRIs, and the key challenges and opportunities ahead.
Panel Discussion: National Human Rights Institutions, Inclusive Societies and Sustainable Development – 1st June 2018, Palais des Nations, Geneva
event discussed the ways in which Paris Principles-compliant NHRIs foster
inclusion through the fulfilment of their mandates. Panelists elaborated on why
inclusion forms part of the core business for NHRIs, and how this effort
contributes to the goal of ‘leaving no one behind’ and sustainable development.
